Upsets All Around

You wouldn’t have bet on reading this today anywhere:

India have been outplayed with bat, ball and in the field. Bangladesh deserve this resounding victory.

Bangladesh beats India by 5 wickets to spare. A top notch performance by the sub-continent minnows and a lack lustre performance leaves India in the precarious position of having to win both their next 2 matches.

In the other match of the day, Pakistan appears to be standing in the booking line for their tickets home. A loss to Ireland alongwith the Ireland-Zimbabwe draw has put Pakistan in a position of being thrown out of the tournament.

I’ve been watching the match at my brother’s place in Philly on his big screen hooked up to liveonnet.org. Their service was actually very good @ 800kbps and also much cheaper (than Willow.tv) @ $100 for the full tournament. I’m not sure of the legality of the deal given all the other frauds going around.

Today was an exciting day for the minnows of World Cricket. A couple of further good performances and the test players might see these youngsters pull up faster than they would’ve thought.

Update on the Pak/Ireland match:

The umpires consult … and the batsmen are off faster than Peter Parker when the cakeshop opens. If there is no more play then Ireland will win on D/L. It’s dark and it’s raining … and unless something changes, Pakistan are on their way out.

Holy St. Patrick! The luck is surely on Ireland’s side - not that they needed any today with their excellent performance.

No one would have envisioned such a day of upsets before the WC began. So much for ICC’s predetermined seeding for Super Eight…today’s events throws a massive wrench in their plans. No India-Pak match this WC to whip up passions. Hopefully, we’ll see more focus on cricket instead.

Not only the defeats but the nature of defeats was even more telling. Both India and Pakistan were comprehensively outplayed in all three departments and it was a complete reversal of tags of minnows and majors. Both the teams did not stand a chance after losing first couple of over and the inexperiences sides played like true professionals, never allowing them to come back in.
Other teams must take inspiration from this and we will atleast be saved the trouble of witnessing predictable match results.

Just heard that Inzi is calling on kismet or the lack of it as the reason for the Pakistan loss.

Anyone got a video link for the post-match interview?
